Recommendation: A literary masterpiece.

Why you should read it: Part short stories, part novel, Winesburg, Ohio is a collection of bleak and haunting views of the human condition. If you get off on tales of loneliness, alienation, and abandoned love, this is the book for you.

Why you shouldn't read it: On the other hand, if you are strictly a plot and potatoes kind of reader, this thematic, loosely structured novel is not for you.

Had you been in the earlier years of your life a citizen of the village of Winesburg, Ohio, there would have been for you no mystery in regard to the beast in his cage.
