The 39 steps - John Buchan



Recommendation: Watch the movie instead. To be more specific, watch the Hitchcock version of the movie, which is frequently listed as one of his greatest works, and one of the best British movies of all time.

Fun Fact: The author, John Buchan, a.k.a the 1st Baron of Tweedsmuir, was Canada's 15th Governor General from 1935 to 1940. He created the Governor General Literary awards, which all my Canadian readers will attest as being the most prestigious literary prize in Canada.
