Recommendation: Enjoyable Canadian literature
Regional in its setting, and focused in its timeliness. The key to good writing is in the details. Ami McKay delivers a splendidly enjoyable book about midwifery in the early 2oth Century, complete with tangible and likeable characters, including its heroine Dora Rare, whose trials and tribulations are much like the ups and downs of childbirth.
As we are to discuss at book club, I don't want to spoil the party.
What I gots, I give, and the Lord, He takes care of the rest.

Looking forward to discussing this book at book club....
And I'm happy that the incest was only minor to the story!
For anyone who has aspirations of someday being a writer, my writing pal just down the street, er — Highway 3 — has interviewed Ami McKay, author of The Birth House. Informative and fascinating!
