The Darkest Road - Guy Gavriel Kay

The Fionvar Tapestry comes to an end. I personally blame Guy Gavriel Kay for ruining my summer reading list. I also blame him for my complete apathy towards blogging in the last 2 months. Ok, that is a bit harsh for Canada's great fantasy novelist. To be honest, I wanted to follow the story through to its end. Kay's writing style is phenomenally lyrical. I have said it previously on this blog, but the Tapestry is essentially Kay's re-branding of Tolkein's great trilogy. Since they say that imitation is the greatest form of flattery, then I will consider the Tapestry to be great flattery for Lord of the Rings and leave it at that.

Every year I end up stuck on some book that takes me 7 or 8 weeks to read, I guess the Darkest Road is my "longest road" for 2008.

If only she had loved me! I might have shone so bright!
